Listen to the experts, not your social media mates.
That’s the advice from Employment Minister Willie Jackson as the country heads into a four-week lockdown to arrest the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus.
He says people may become confused by what they are hearing about the virus from people who think they know more than the professionals.
"A lot of our relations are made self-appointed medical experts. They never got passed form 4. They'll tell you all the rules in terms of self-isolation. I'd just say listen to the directions coming in and use some common sense because these next four weeks are crucial. We have to exercise huge self-discipline and common sense. If we do that then I think we'll get through this".
Willie Jackson says many of the ideas for redeploying laid-off workers have been overtaken by events, but officials will be working through the lockdown to identify gaps where people can safely be put to work.
