The head of Labour’s Māori seat campaign says new Māori Party recruit John Tamihere is wrong on every count of his attack against the Labour Government and its Māori MPs.
The former Labour cabinet minister has accused Labour of silencing its Māori MPs on issues like Whānau Ora, Oranga Tamariki and the occupation at Ihumātao.
Willie Jackson says his former talk-back co-host is standing in Tāmaki Makaurau as an extension of his war with sitting MP and Whānau Ora Minister Peeni Henare about the way the programme will be funded, and truth seems to be the first victim.
"He talks about Ihumātao. Māori Ministers have been on the ground trying to negotiate this. Just because John says it doesn't mean it's true, because it's totally untrue. The work on Ihumātao has been huge over the last month or so for a number of us over and he knows that, but John just makes it up," he says.
Willie Jackson says when Mr Tamihere attacks the Government’s record on Oranga Tamariki, he fails to mention his Waipareira Trust is in negotiations to form a partnership with the child protection agency.
