Iwi take seats on Wellington water body

Ngāti Toa and Taranaki Whānui have been given seats on the council-owned body responsible for drinking, storm and waste water management for metropolitan Wellington and South Wairarapa.
Each shareholding council also has a seat on the Wellington Water Committee.
Sir Matiu Rei from Ngāti Toa says it was significant not just for the region but also nationally for mana whenua to have a seat at the table guiding the planning for the future of water use and management.
Taranaki Whānui representative Kim Skelton says the presence and active participation of mana whenua iwi will bring diversity and significant added value to the forum.
