Public servants slow to embrace reforms

An iwi leader says entrenched public service attitudes will probably be the biggest obstacle to reform of Oranga Tamariki.
Che Wilson from Ngāti Rangi says the weekend's national hui gave people a sense of the strength of Māori when they work together.
He's looking forward to the Māori-led review of the Children's Ministry, and compared it with the work his Ōhakune-based iwi did several years ago to develop its whānau transformation strategy.
"What Government needs to do is relook at the situation and that actually is going to be the hardest thing because even though there is an aspiration for politicians to change, the public service will fight that so this is where the State Services Commission needs to lead something once the review is completed," Mr Wilson says.
