The Public Service Association is looking for early action on its claim about the injustices faced by wāhine Māori in the workplace.
The Wai 2864 claim calls out the Crown for failures that have relegated generations of wāhine Māori to low paid jobs and vulnerable work conditions.
PSA lawyer Tania Te Whenua says the fact $6.2 million was set aside in the budget to progress the claim before the Waitangi Tribunal is positive, and she hopes the pūtea will be set aside to research the nature and extent of the compounding inequities faced by wāhine Māori.
The Minister for Women, Julie Anne Genter, has acknowledged wāhine Māori continue to have poorer social, education, health and employment outcomes compared to Pākehā women.
