Tairāwhiti triumphs in museum awards
Tairāwhiti Museum’s show of Aitanga a Māhaki treasures has won the taonga Māori exhibition excellence and the most innovative use of reo Māori categories at this year’s Service IQ NZ Museum Awards.
Judge Paora Tibble says the Taonga Pare-Mata: Mangatū Taonga Returned exhibition is a fine example of collaboration and celebration for all museums to follow on the power of taonga to bring people together.
Auckland War Memorial Museum’s Online Cenotaph/He Pou Aroha won the project section.
Otago Museum won three awards for most innovative education programme for Kia Rapua Science Playground, most innovative public access programme for Space Central, and the Arts Access Aotearoa Museums Award for its iNDx exhibition of work by autistic artists.
The awards were presented last night as part of the Museums Aotearoa Annual Conference in Wellington.
