Wai Atamai hub to boost Waipareira research capacity
Te Whānau o Waipareira has stepped up its commitment to research and evidence-led development with the launch today of a new multi-disciplinary hub.
Wai-Atamai innovation director Awerangi Tamihere says the name reflects the legacy of the west Auckland Māori community in being at the forefront of social and cultural innovation for Māori.
She says Wai-Atamai will incorporate Waipareira's research and strategy teams as well as its creative lab which produces videos and other material.
"It's about being able to research and put in place very quickly new types of innovation programmes that truly make a difference on the ground. It's not a one off solution but sustains outcomes so we can start to see changes in our families over 25 years," Ms Tamihere says.
Recent research into four generations of west Auckland Māori whānau is helping the Waipareira board develop initiatives based on what has been shown to contribute to well being and success rather than get hung up on negative indicators.
