Pasifika cancelled because police in Christchurch

The horrific events in Christchurch have led to the cancellation of this weekend's Pasifika Festival.
Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development spokesperson Steve Armitage says while initial discussions with the police gave organisers hope the festival would be able to bring Auckland's communities together at this time of national mourning, it became clear the police needed for the festival would not be available.
He says they respect police must prioritise resourcing to ensure the safety of all communities across Tāmaki Makaurau.
Pasifika will return in 2020..
