FULL INTERVIEW WITH WHETU FALA CLICK HERE
A new hand is at the tiller at Whanganui’s Awa FM.
Whetu Fala has returned to her home rohe to take on the station manager’s role, after a diverse career in television, film and theatre.
The Māori Television board member says she was excited at how technological change is opening up more options for iwi radio in the hands of what is predominantly a young workforce.
"Programmes like Waka Huia, when we asked people to take part in Waka Huia one of their biggest fears was that Pākeha would sell their image and their knowledge. We had to reassure them it wouldn’t happened and they only gave their grudging agreement because they wanted us to preserve their knowledge, their reo, their tikanga for future generations," Ms Fala says.
