A foundation board member of a new Australasian Indigenous Women’s Business Network says it will be a chance to provide support for wāhine Māori to break the glass ceilings in both the private and public sector.
The network was set up by the Australia New Zealand Leadership Forum.
Debbie Ngarewa Packer from Ngāti Ruanui says she and fellow Māori board members Traci Houpapa, Hinerangi Edwards and Liz Mellish can share with other wāhine the wealth of experience learned from being women taking on the male-oriented business world.
That's something they can share with the next generation of leaders.
"To be an indigenous women adds more value but is still perceived in the business world as a barrier so I think the first thing to do is to make use we bring them with us and that our networks become their networks, that our experiences become theirs to share and learn from but also to make sure that their uniqueness and authenticity is understood," Ms Ngarewa Packer says.
