Ruanui gets top advice for Taranaki
Ngāti Ruanui today welcomed the sons of Everest conquerer Tenzing Norgay to Stratford Mountain House on the slopes of Taranaki.
Norbu Tenzing and Dhamey Tenzing Norgay have been meeting iwi round the country to discuss ways to promote indigenous and ethical tourism ventures.
Ngāti Ruanui Holdings chair Debbie Ngarewa-Packer says under Ngāti Ruanui ownership, Stratford Mountain House has become an award-winning internationally recognised place to visit.
The iwi also has a Department of Conservation walking concession on the maunga.
The Nepalese Sherpa brothers will watch the sun set from Maunga Taranaki and host a one-off presentation ‘Te Mana o Te Maunga’ for Ngāti Ruanui uri, including sharing their views on the challenges Sherpa face in the Chomolungma-Mount Everest area.
