Upper Hutt Posse for hall of fame

Aotearoa hip hop pioneers Upper Hutt Posse are the winners of this year's New Zealand Music Hall of Fame Legacy Award.
They will be inducted into Te Whare Taonga Pūoro o Aotearoa on November 15.
The band's debut single E Tū released 30 years ago was the first original Hiphop track recorded and released in this country.
It combines revolutionary rhetoric with an explicitly Māori frame of reference, paying homage to nineteenth century Maori warrior chiefs who fought against European colonialism.
Founding member Dean Hapeta, also known as Te Kupu and D Word, says the progressive activism of the past decade shows the world is catching up with the Posse.
