Te Aho 100 percent sure allegations groundless
Lawyer Willie Te Aho says he and his family are copping a social media backlash over his support for Tauranga Moana leader Awanuiārangi Black but he’s standing by his late mate.
Mr Black, who died two years ago, has been accused by his widow of being a pedophile and this week a newspaper reported a former Tauranga man’s claims Mr Black repeatedly sexually abused him as a teenager.
Mr Te Aho says people should go to the police rather than the media.
"The reality is the police have a machinery for dealing with allegations, they're going through their job and in a couple of months we'll know the validity of those allegations. I'm pretty sure, in fact I'd say 100 percent sure, that the reputation of my good friend will stand up," he says.
Mr Te Aho says it’s ghastly when allegations are made against a dead man who can’t defend himself.
