MP stands up against toxic supporters

Greens co-leader Marama Davidson says the death threats and rape threats posted to on her social media pages by supporters of a pair of controversial Canadian speakers shows the kind of toxic values the pair are unleashing.
The Manurewa MP became a target after supporting Auckland Mayor Phil Goff’s decision to refuse to rent council premises to Lauren Southern and Stefan Molyneux, whose views have been described as anti immigrant, anti feminist and anti-Muslims.
She says it’s not about freedom of speech.
"I don’t see those same critics jumping on the petition for Renae Maihi who is being taken to court for calling Bob Jones a racist. I don't see those same critics jumping on the support for black lives who are being extinguished by police in America simply for berating let along speaking and trying to use their freedom of speech. I don't see those same supporters standing up for transgender rights. We know this isn't about freedom of speech. This is about supporting white supremacist views," Ms Davidson says.
She says historically supporters of white supremacism, racism and homophobia have been given powerful platforms to speak, while voices promoting progressive values, inclusion, and indigenous views have been suppressed.
