Aotearoa muso’s pay tribute to Papa Carl Perkins in Tāmaki tonight

The musical legacy of former Herbs member and House of Shem founder Carl Perkins will be celebrated at a tribute concert in Auckland tonight.
Perkins died earlier this year of bowel cancer.
The line up includes Shem, Herbs, Maaka, Maisiey Rika, Southside of Bombay, Che Fu and the Crates and others.
Te Omeka Perkins says they include acts his father played with or was influenced by.
He was driven by his Ratana faith, which intensified when he moved back to Ratana Pa to play with other musicians, but the music also led him to study Rastafarianism and other ways of seeing the world.
" I think he was just getting the best from all of them and then when we put it together that's how I feel that he put out into the music he always embraced everything. We were bought up like that embracing all the goodness from what he could," says Te Omeka Perkins
