Call to join zero carbon conversation
MP Marama Davidson is on the road encouraging whānau to get involved in the consultation on her Green co-leader’s Zero Carbon Bill.
James Shaw’s bill will set a path for New Zealand to be carbon neutral by 2050, and look for ways to mitigate the effects of climate change and more extreme weather.
She says it’s something that is already affecting Māori, especially those living in coastal areas.
While it may seem less important for many whānau than the daily struggle to get kai on the table, it’s will have an impact.
"Climate change is going to affect all of our jobs. It’s going to affect how we grow our kai. It’s going to affect our water supply, and it already has begun doing all those things. So I’m also asking for help from people to say how can we make sure this grabs us better, how do we actually have a conversation people want to be part of," Ms Davidson says.
