Housing New Zealand land at Northcote is to be redeveloped for the up to 400 affordable KiwiBuild homes.

Housing and Urban Development Minister Phil Twyford says the whole development will comprise 1,200 new homes, divided equally between state houses, KiwiBuild/affordable homes, and market homes.

He's keen to use the latest in building innovation including off-site manufacturing.

The homes will count towards the tally of Kiwibuild homes which starts from Sunday. with the Government's official target being 1000 homes by June 2019, 5000 homes by June 2020 and 10,000 homes by June 2021.

From next week aspiring first homeowners will be able to register their interest in a KiwiBuild home.
