Kura helps to embrace technology lessons
Teachers and schools are gearing up to take on the new digital curriculum, but a word of reassurance – it’s not just about the technology.
Janelle Riki Waaka, an English and Māori medium facilitator with professional development consultancy Core Education, says digital skills are important part of the future job market.
Rather than just being consumers of the technology, the Hāngarau Matihiko curriculum encourages pupils to use it to solve problems.
"What we really want to do is support our kids to become really active problem solvers and be able to explore what might be those digital solutions and in terms of our programme Kia Takatū, we are supporting even those kaiako who are starting at the very beginning, they still are not perhaps confident in their own use of digital tools, we’re starting at the very beginning to make sure we support all of our kaiako," Ms Waaka says.
