Smoothy win for Māori food business
A south Taranaki Māori food business has taken top honours at the biennial Fine Food New Zealand Innovation Awards.
Kaitahi's Frozen Superfood Smoothy Drops include traditional Māori ingredients such as kūmara, puha and kawakawa which can be added to liquid to make a nutritious drink.
Business development manager Leonie Matoe says it's the Waverley-based firm's first innovation, and it's great to have it validated by industry experts.
She says the recognition will help it get more of its creative ideas to market.
Judges said the Kaitahi smoothy drops represent an advance on other frozen smoothie blends on the market and deliver delicious and nutritious functional food in a highly convenient way.
