Prime spot on for Kauri response
Biosecurity New Zealand has appointed an independent panel to strengthen efforts to tackle Kauri die back.
It will be chaired by Bio-Protection Research Centre director Barry O’Neil and includes Ngāti Hine kaumatua and Environment Court commissioner Kevin Prime, University of Auckland social scientist Maree McEntee and Lindsay Bulman, the forest protection science leader at the Scion forest research institute.
Roger Smith, the chair of the Kauri dieback programme governance group, says the panel will bring a new perspective to the management of the disease and provide advice to his group.
Biosecurity NZ has started public consultation to gather feedback on the future direction for managing Kauri dieback.
It includes hui next week in Northland, Auckland and Thames.
The consultation feed into development of a national pest management plan, one of a range of tougher measures announced by the Government late last year to help combat the disease.
