Job schemes target Hawkes Bay rangatahi


Four Hawkes Bay initiatives aimed at getting young people into work or work ready are to receive He Poutama Rangatahi funding.
Employment Minister Willie Jackson says the investment of $1.7 million over two years will support over 500 15 to 24-year-olds at most risk of long-term unemployment into employment, education or training.
Hastings District Council will receive $460,000 to build on its successful Connector Model programme, which employs specialists to build relationships with employers, local youth and whānau.
Te Taiwhenua ō Heretaunga will get $258,000 to enable 140 rangatahi to gain driving qualifications through its Takatū Youth Mentoring Programme.
Hikoi4Life Trust and Les Hokianga’s award winning WorkFit programme will receive $765,000 to scale up existing support to get young people physically and mentally fit for work.
The Development Hub will get about $200,000 for a work readiness programme to support 36 young Māori and Pasifika women including mothers.
