Jobs on offer for rangatahi in Auckland fest
More than 1000 jobs for young people will be on offer tomorrow at the Auckland Council job fest.
It's a collaboration between the council's Youth Connections unit, Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development and the Tindall Foundation, and this year also involves CareersExpo, which helps secondary students transition from school to work.
Auckland councillor Richard Hills says there are 28,600 Auckland 15- to 24-year-olds in Auckland not in employment,
That's a NEET rate of 13.6 percent, and for Maori and Pasifika youth it could be double that.
The job fest is an opportunity for Auckland to join some of those rangatahi up with employers seeking staff for entry level roles.
"It's also about having conversations in a less overwhelming space or it's not just a cold dark interview room, it's actually a big expo with a lot of people around, heaps to people to give you advice so it's a chance for young people to have a positive chat with employers. The employers are keen to have those chats with young people too and ask them what are the barriers, why aren't we connecting and how can we connect," Mr Hills says.
The JobFest is alongside the New Zealand Careers Expo at the ASB Showground from 9.30 tomorrow morning.
