Charters line up for new status

All existing charter schools have submitted applications to become state schools.
Education Minister Chris Hipkins says 10 of the sponsors have submitted applications to become designated character schools and two to become state integrated schools.
He expects to decide on the applications by the end of July, after consultation and assessment by the Education Ministry.
Mr Hipkins appointed a new advisory group to monitor the schools’ performance while they remain charter schools, to be chaired by former NZEI Te Riu Roa president Bruce Adin.
