Water advocacy key portfolio for Davidson
Marama Davidson says her new responsibility for water will give her a chance to advocate for a greater Maori say over the resource.
The Greens co-leader picked up the portfolio along with children and economic development in a reshuffle of the party’s non-ministerial speaking roles.
She says the party has strong policy on water rights and Maori ownership.
"Maori have proprietary and customary rights over water. We know that’s a difficult discussion but it needs to be sorted out. It is about making sure Maori can uphold their kaitiaki rights over water quality and that’s what Maori will do," Ms Davidson says.
