Fonterra opens gate for Maori interns
Dairy giant Fonterra is teaming up with non-profit group TupuToa on a new internship programme for Maori and Pasifika graduates.
Over next summer three tertiary students heading into their last year of study will join Fonterra for a twelve-week paid internship where they will be exposed to different parts of the business and mentored by senior leaders.
Joanne Fair, the company’s managing director for people and culture, says the new partnership will help broaden the talent source for future leaders and increase diversity of thought.
She says Maori and Pasifika make up around 22 per cent of the general population but are underrepresented in New Zealand’s corporate workforce.
TupuToa was established just over two years ago to support Maori and Pasifika interns and emerging leaders.
