Marama Davidson right for the job
James Shaw says having Marama Davidson as his co-leader doesn’t signal the Greens are shifting left.
He says she has a record not only on social justice but also for her concern for the environment.
"People said it was a lurch to the right when I was elected. Actually, our policy and stances remained exactly the same. People overestimate the role co-leaders have. Our job is to represent the party and its policies and views and that of the caucus. We don’t have grand executive authority to do what the heck we like. The idea we are lurching all over the place is complete rubbish," he says.
Mr Shaw says Marama Davidson is one of parliament’s best communicators, and party members responded to her authenticity.
