Housing crisis brought home for MP
Manurewa MP Louisa Wall says the Stocktake of New Zealand’s Housing released this week confirms what she sees every day on the setreets of her south Auckland electorate.
The report from an independent panel of experts commissioned by Housing minister Phil Twyford found over the nine years of National-led Government the number of Housing New Zealand houses declined from 69,000 to 64,000.
She says National’s plan to create a non-government sector dedicated to social housing didn’t work.
"Those most affected have been Maori, Pasifika. When they put their hand up and say 'Can you please help me, I'd love a house,' those houses don't exist and in places like the Manurewa CBD we have between 30 and 40 people sleeping on our streets," Ms Wall says
