Cult collaboration readies Kiwa for dubbing boom

Maori-owned software company Kiwa Digital has teamed up with Wellington developer The Cargo Cult to take advantage of the global production boom created by tech giants such as Netflix and Amazon.

Chief executive Steve Renata says The Cargo Cult's Conformalizer tool, that allows sound editors to automatically conform and rebalance audio data, will be integrated into the workflow of Kiwa's award-winning VoiceQ system, allowing studio engineers to quickly make large script and media changes.

He says companies like Netflix and Amazon are generating an unprecedented loevel of content, which audiences want translated into their own languages.

"Now to do that you require obviosuly grsat talent to translate the content, the script and then voice it. You need software that can help that procvess. We found another great Kiwi story which was The Cargo Cult Conformalizer and we found a way to integrate it to work with VoiceQ to achieve this collossal task in quick time really good quality," Mr Renata says.

Rather than trying to solve all the problems on its own, Kiwa is using Maori and New Zealand notions of deep collaboration to solve a universal problem.
