Greenpeace takes on seismic testers
Greenpeace activists this morning boarded the resupply vessel for seismic blasting ship Amazon Warrior in the port of Taranaki.
Two climbed a post on the Mermaid Searcher and attached a banner saying 'Rise up, end oil,' and two others locked themselves to other parts of the ship.
Climate campaigner Amanda Larsson says the Amazon Warrior won't come into port because it knows it will face strong opposition from the public and from Taranaki iwi.
The ship is blasting the seabed in the South Taranaki Bight, which is the habitat of blue whales and other endangered marine mammals.
It's prospecting for oil and gas on behalf of Austrian oil giant OMV.
Ms Larsson says searching for oil and gas makes no sense in the face of climate change.
The protesters have been issued trespass notices, and police are at the port.
