No appetite for home grown dope
FULL INTERVIEW WITH WILLIE JACKSON
Labour list MP Willie Jackson says he'll vote against Green MP Chloe Swarbrick's medicinal marijuana bill.
The bill, which would allow those with terminal illness or in chronic pain to use and grow cannabis for medicinal use, comes up for a conscience vote tonight.
National will only allow a few of its MPs to exercise that vote, so it will need a strong showing from Labour anfd New Zealand First MPs to pass its first reading and be sent to a select committee.
Mr Jackson says he is happier with the Government Bill allowing people with terminal illness to have a legal defence for using medicinal cannabis, rather than the Green approach.
"They're talking about growing and I want to see some control on things so they have made it a conscience vote and I am not supporting the Greens' strategy but I think we have a bit of a hold on it because we are in a more controlled space in terms of what we are doing with David Clark's Bill," he says.
