Ngati Kahungunu mourn for the loss of staunch leader
Ngati Kahungunu is mourning its deputy chair Riwai 'Rill' Meihana, who passed away at his home in Nuhaka.
Chair Ngahiwi Tomoana says Mr Meihana was a staunch advocate for Kahungunu and an abrupt to the point leader who maintained the mana of Kahungunu 24/7.
He and his wife Larraine managed a Child Youth and Family Home in Wairoa.
He also served on numerous tribal and community organisations.
Mr Tomoana says he promoted pathways to healthy lifestyles and he tried his best to advocate for and on behalf of whanau, hapu and iwi.
Rill Meihana was taken today to Kahungunu Marae where he will remain until his nehu on Friday at 11am at the Latter Day Saints Chapel in Nuhaka.
