New Maori TV CEO looks to engage younger Maori
Understanding the audience is the priority for the new chief executive of Maori Television.
Keith Ikin from Ngati Maniapoto, Ngati Apakura, Ngapuhi, and Whanganui has been giving the job after six months as acting chief executive, including overseeing the move to a new headquarters in East Tamaki.
He says his previous career in education gave him a perspective on the needs of the learner.
He will now focus on the expectations of the audience and how content can be created to connect with that audience on a range of platforms.
"I'm keen in particular to engage with young Maori. I'm keen to find ways where young Maori can have a much greater role in the content being created and the way the content is being provided and made accessible," Mr Ikin says.
He says the development of content is held within a small group, and he'd like to see that process move closer to communities.
