Tex Rickard stood alongside his wife for the return of Raglan Golf Course
A great loss this week as the people of Whaingaroa/ Raglan buried James 'Tex' Rickard, husband of the late Eva Rickard and a pou in her battles for her ancestral whenua in the Waikato west coast town.
Mr Rickard was born in Rangitukia on the East Coast, and had Irish, Spanish, Portugese and Maori whakapapa.
His daughter Angeline Greensill says he was manpowered during World War 2 when he was about 15 to work in the Post Office.
After a series of postings he ended up in Whaingaroa in 1945 where he met his future wife.
The couple had nine children, seven of who survive him.
Mr Rickard managed the Trust bank branch in Raglan until he retired.
He also helped establish Poihakena Marae, Whaingaroa Kite Whenua Trust, which oversees the former Raglan golf course land, and Te Kopua 2B3 Incorporation (which oversees a multiple owned land block in Whaingaroa).
