Open air a healing place

If you see people out picnicking this week, they could be taking the advice of the Mental Health Foundation for Mental Health Week that nature is a great healer
Its Maori development manager, Ellen Norman, says people need to think of ways to connect with their whenua, maunga and awa.
She says the statistics show Maori fare badly on many mental health measures, and some of that could be because they don’t make their own mental well being a priority.
"What we tend to do is prioritise our well being around how much food is in the fridge, whether we’ve got warm homes, healthy homes etc," Ms Norman says.
