Maori culture on show in California
Maori culture comes to California this month with the Tuku Iho – Living Legacy exhibition set for a 10-day showing at the Rose Room in Venice Beach, Los Angeles.
The show of traditional and contemporary work from the New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute in Rotorua drew thousands of visitors in Washington DC in July.
Project director Karl Johnstone says it will also include live displays of wood and pounamu carving, ta moko, kapa haka and contemporary performances and presentations, including kapa haka performances at nearby Santa Monica Pier.
Other partners including Tourism New Zealand, NZ Wine Growers, New Zealand Film Commission and Immigration NZ will hold supporting events to showcase what the country has to offer.
