National Party lifeline likely for Maori Party

Don’t count the Maori Party out just yet.
That’s the verdict of political commentator Chris Trotter to the party’s election night wipe-out, where its loss in Waiariki cost it two MPs, with list member Marama Fox also in the political wilderness.
He says with founder Dame Tariana Turia coming out of retirement to battle for the party, and individuals like Dr Lance O’Sullivan and Marama Fox prepared to front, it will get at least one more shot.
There should be resources available for 2020.
"Over the last nine years it has forged very strong links with iwi authorities, with the Iwi Leaders Forum. It has strong backing obviously with elements supportive of the National Party and as we well know elements supportive of the National Party are rather well-heeled and prone to giving large sums of money to those they favour," Mr Trotter says.
