Marama Fox finds hope in houses
Marama Fox is leaving the house of parliament, but housing is still top of her thoughts.
The Maori Party co-leader admits going through the seven stages of grief at her party's trouncing, with anger to the fore in her immediate post-election television appearances.
She's been though denial and sorrow and is heading for hope the party can regroup and claw its way back into the political sphere as an independent voice for Maori.
Her immediate plan is to build houses.
"We've already got the model ready to go and our first lot of houses will go into Flaxmere in Hastings with a social housing provider and they will be top of the line, environmentally friendly, sustainable homes that our people deserve to live in that will be enduring because of the way they are crafted. That is my immediate future. That gives me hope," Mrs Fox says.
She says the independent Maori voice in parliament is now gone, because Labour's 13 Maori MPs will do what their party says.
