2030 target for generation reo
The Greens have set 2030 as the date they want to have te reo Maori a part of the core curriculum up to year 10.
Spokesperson Marama Davidson says the party acknowledges the challenges of getting enough teachers, and it will work with the education and te reo sectors to create the curriculum and develop a strategy with incentives and scholarships to drive teacher recruitment.
She says nothing will happen without a plan.
"Until we have made this commitment and put this plan up and committed to the resources for making sure we are attracting the teachers, making sure we get the curriculum guidelines sorted, until we do all those things it is never going to happen. Let's just do it. Let's just start now," Ms Davidson says.
The Greens also want to see a prompt resolution tot he Kohanga Reo Claim so resources flow back into that part of the early childhood sector.
Labour will release its te reo Maori policy tomorrow.
