Labour’s new deputy leader says he has no intention of being bland or boring.
Kelvin Davis has drawn fire for a television interview where he listed the faults of his National Party opponents, starting with a claim that Prime Minister Bill English has the personality of a rock.
He says Labour under its new leader Jacinda Ardern is aiming for cut through with voters.
"You can't please everybody all the time and we have to make people feel something, whether it's laughter, anger or sad or emotional, we've got go touch people's heart strings, not just appeal to people's brains, They just get bored with us," Mr Davis says.
The leadership change has lifted the spirits of Labour supporters, with more than 2000 volunteers signing up over the past week and the coffers swelling with $400,000 in small donations.
