Green Party Co-Leader Metiria Turei says nobody should have to lie to live or feed their children.

Metiria Turei said she lied to WINZ when she was a student 20 years ago.

" But it's true I lied to WINZ about the number of people I was flatting with because it meant I could get a little bit more from my benefit and it meant that we could survive. I don't think that anybody ever should have to lie or choose to have to lie and having to pay their rent and feed the kids", she says.

Green party Co-Leader Metiria Turei outed herself when the Party announced its Families Package last weekend.

Twitter has been trending for the Green co leader with the hashtag #IAMMETIRIA with thousands of followers sharing their stories of struggling to survive on benefits.
