Land Wars commemorations on track

The panel overseeing the fund to commemorate Nga Ra Maumahara, the New Zealand Land Wars, has met to develop guidelines for grants.
The panel has $4 million to distribute over the next four years, starting with an inaugural national event in Te Taitokerau on October 28 as well as other regional events that day.
Applications should open late next month.
The panel is chaired by Sir Wira Gardiner and includes iwi representatives Kawhia Te Muraahi and Pita Tipene, Te Puni Kokiri chief executive Michelle Hippolite and Ministry for Culture and Heritage chief executive Paul James.
Maori Development Minister Te Ururoa Flavell says the commemorations will be a game changer in the way our history is being presented and a representation of the changing relationship between the Crown and iwi.
