School rolls swell as families share housing

Overcrowded housing means overcrowded schools, which will have consequences for the prospects of many students.
Manurewa MP Louisa Wall says families are having to combine incomes to pay high rents, and that means more tamariki in school zones.
The Government has trumped an increase in education spending in the Budget, but Labour says it is paying catch-up after years of frozen spending.
Ms Wall says in her electorate there are at least found schools rated severely overcrowded, including in which is at 129 percent capacity.
"What it's meaning for a lot of our schools is (they need) more classrooms. Without that investment class sizes are too big. lots more stress on teachers. It affects the learning of our children, so there are some critical issues that need addressing," she says.
Prefab classrooms are are a temporary solution and can mean the loss of sports and recreational areas.
