Maori providers best partners for asthma outreach

The Asthma and Respiratory Foundation is keen to partner with Maori health providers to extend its reach into those communities.
Board member Lou Te Hinepouri Jurlina says respiratory health is a major issue for Maori, particularly when it becomes compounded with damp and overcrowded housing and other social issues.
She says the foundation has resources that can support Maori providers, particularly in high needs areas like south Auckland.
"That’s the place where we can be supportive. The leadership will come from within that organisation that Maori people find obviously a better place to go, it's culturally appropriate, culturally safe, easy accessibility for them. We believe that is a place where we can probably enhance the Maori engagement strategy,"says Lou Te Hinepouri Jurlina.
