Waka warriors back home safe

The ocean-going waka Te Matau a Maui arrived back in Napier early this morning after delivering messages of protest to the seismic blasting ship Amazon Warrior.
Tere Harrison from Te Ikaroa, a group of 80 Tairawhiti hapu and iwi, says people in the area face a continuing onslaught, with the Government issuing further exploration permits coming as close as 200 metres to the Napier foreshore.
"That is ludicrous because legislation states there is an exclusion zone of 500 metres. That means sailors, yacht owners, everyone who enjoys the waters, there have to be some serious compromises to entitle oil exploration and oil companies in the Hawke's Bay region," she says.
Tere Harrison says Te Matau a Maui's crew headed straight for the Ahuriri hot springs to recover body heat after battling through the night against the remains of Cyclone Debbie.
