MPs keen to bring talent in through list
One of Labour’s Maori MPs says his colleagues will be strategic when it comes to seeking places on the party list.
Labour leader Andrew Little raised eyebrows last week with his pronouncement Maori MPs would not seek the protection of a high list ranking as they faced a revved up Maori and Mana Party assault on their seats.
Labour’s list selection process includes features designed to ensure representation of a wide range of groups, including Maori.
Tamaki Makaurau MP Peeni Henare says if sitting MPs are confident of holding their seats, they may opt to stay off the list.
