Kaikoura support fund extended
A $17 million lifeline for businesses affected by the Kaikoura earthquake has been extended.
Minister for Economic Development Simon Bridges and Social Development Minister Anne Tolley say to date firms have accessed almost $14.9 million of the support fund, but some are still just getting on their feet.
For that reason the package, which includes wage subsidies, has been extended to April 30.
Cabinet has also approved a new $1 million business grant programme for Kaikoura, Hurunui and Marlborough.
Mr Bridges says it’s similar to the business recovery trust which supported Christchurch businesses after the Canterbury earthquakes, and it will be available past April.
There’s also a $870,000 support package to promote tourism in Kaikoura and other upper South Island districts for the 2017/18 peak season.
