Pomana legacy will be remembered
South Auckland educationalist George Pomana has been laid to rest with his ancestors on Matakana Island.
The head of James Cook High School’s Puutake Te Wahanga Maori died on New Year’s Day aged 62.
Colleagues paid tribute to his pursuit of excellence and his passion for youth.
He was also instrumental in the building of Te Pou Herenga Waka Marae at James Cook, and led the school’s kapa haka programme.
Mr Pomana promoted team activities and was chair of a former chair of Auckland Region Outrigger Canoe Association and former chair of Counties Manukau Softball Association.
