Faithful piano moved to Blue Baths

A grand piano which has provided accompaniment for people at St Faith’s Church in Ohinemutu for half a century has found a new home.
It takes pride of place in The Social Room, a new cafe and bar opening today at the Blue Baths in Rotorua’s Government Gardens.
Manager Jo Romanes says the Gors and Kallmann piano has been restored, and the venue will have a pianist in regularly to play it.
St Faith’s member Gay Kingi says the piano was gifted to the church by the late Nick Carter of the Carter Chorale in the 1950s.
The opening of the new cafe, with its views over the gardens and the Rotorua Museum, s currently closed because of earthquake damage, is expected to boost tourism in the area.
Rotorua New Zealand chief executive Michelle Templer says the town has enjoyed record visitor numbers, with visitor nights up 18 percent in August and 9 percent in September.
