Land bought for Ihumatao development

Fletcher Residential has completed the purchase of 33.8 hectares of land for its residential development next to the Otuataua Stonefields Reserve in Mangere.
The land has been subject to a long running protest because of its historic and archaeological features.
Fletcher Residential general manager Ken Lotu-I’iga says the company has been working with Maori leaders who have the mandate to represent their iwi.
He says more than a quarter of the development land has been set aside as a buffer for the reserve, and an archaeologist will be on site to protect any significant finds.
Areas with caves and middens won’t be built on, and the old farm house and some significant trees will also be spared.
He says Auckland can have both history and houses, and the company is committed to creating a new neighborhood that reflects these values.
