Hauraki given time on water policy
The Waikato Regional Council has withdrawn the eastern part of its territory from notification of its Healthy Rivers Wai Ora regional plan change to allow more time for consultation with Hauraki iwi.
The plan change sets new rules for land use with the aim of improving water quality in the Waikato and Wairoa river catchments,
Council chief executive Vaughan Payne says the withdrawn area may be re-incorporated into the plan change process next year, and until then the old rules apply.
The Hauraki area or interests covers about 11 percent of the catchment, including 120,000 hectares from just north of Morrinsville, northward along the eastern side of Lake Waikare to Tuakau, across to the Hunua Ranges, to the northern regional boundary.
